SUMMARY:Re-Pairing: Having Deeper Conversations after Difficult Times
DESCRIPTION:With David Bullard\, PhD \nDisappointments\, arguments\, feeling misunderstood and distant from others – these dynamics can be woven into our interactions with those we love as we experience the inevitable disappointments of relationships. A cancer diagnosis often agitates these challenges with the addition of stress\, fear\, and physical changes. This seminar will touch on various communication styles and introduce specific ways to help couples and individuals “re-pair” and reconnect deeply after difficult times. \nRegister with the Cancer Resource Center at (415) 885-3693. \nSingles and partners are both welcome.

SUMMARY:San Jose: Look Good ... Feel Better .... in Spanish
DESCRIPTION: A free two-hour workshop for women undergoing cancer treatment. This program helps improve the self-image\, appearance\, and quality of life of patients by teaching beauty techniques to help cope with the temporary appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. This program is made possible through a collaboration of the Personal Care Products Council Foundation\, the American Cancer Society\, and the Professional Beauty Association/National Cosmetology Association. Group classes and one-on-one services are available\, depending on the area. Please call for additional information. \nOpen to women cancer patients in active treatment. Registration is required. Only program participants may attend the workshop. Due to confidentiality and comfort level of the patients\, as well as space restrictions\, this protocol is necessary. This ensures that the participant receives full attention to gain the skills and confidence for increased independence. While this is not a standard policy\, a patient may attend more than one workshop; however\, she should bring her cosmetic kit with her to the additional workshop. She may not receive an additional kit. Patients with a recurrence of cancer and who are receiving another round of treatment may attend another workshop and receive a new cosmetic kit. Please register for the session at least two business days in advance. \nComments:\nThis is a non-medical service that does not promote any cosmetic product line. If you can’t attend one of our LGFB Sessions\, self-help materials can be obtained free of charge by request through the Look Good…Feel Better toll-free number\, 1-800-395-LOOK (1-800-395-5665). The self-help materials include a 30-minute video entitled: Just For You. \nTeenage cancer patients ages 13-17 can visit the 2bMe website at http://www.2bme.org. \nMale cancer patients can visit the Look Good Feel Better for Men website at http://www.lookgoodfeelbetterformen.org. \nThis program is provided by the American Cancer Society. \n

SUMMARY:Campbell: Look Good ... Feel Better
DESCRIPTION:A free two-hour workshop for women undergoing cancer treatment.

SUMMARY:Mill Valley: Wonder Women: Sex\, Power\, and the Quest for Perfection
DESCRIPTION:Debora Spar | President of Barnard College and author of several books including “Wonder Women: Sex\, Power\, and the Quest for Perfection” \n  \nAs the president of arguably the most important all-women school in the country\, Debora Spar brings research\, wisdom\, humor and insight to the heated debate about how women’s lives have and have not changed over the past forty years. How far have women really come? And what will it take to get true equality for good? Can women really have it all? \nDebora Spar is a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service\, and received her doctorate in government from Harvard. She is a member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences and currently serves as a trustee of the Nightingale-Bamford School and a director at Goldman Sachs. Prior to coming to Barnard\, Spar was the Spangler Family Professor of Business Administration and had served as senior associate dean for faculty research and development at Harvard Business School. At Harvard she taught courses on the politics of international business\, comparative capitalism\, and economic development. \nSince her arrival at Barnard\, President Debora Spar has been a vocal proponent of women’s education and leadership\, spearheading initiatives that include the Athena Center for Leadership Studies\, an interdisciplinary center devoted to the theory and practice of women’s leadership\, and Barnard’s Global Symposium series\, an annual gathering of high-profile and accomplished female leaders held each year in a different region of the world. \nA political scientist by training\, Spar’s scholarly research focuses on issues of international political economy\, examining how rules are established in new or emerging markets and how firms and governments together shape the evolving global economy. She is the author of numerous books\, including Ruling the Waves: Cycles of Invention\, Chaos\, and Wealth from the Compass to the Internet (2001) and The Baby Business: How Money\, Science\, and Politics Drive the Commerce of Conception (2006). Her next book\, Wonder Women: Sex\, Power and the Quest for Perfection\, will be published in September 2013. \nDebora is married to Miltos Catomeris\, an architect whose specialty is academic\, institutional and corporate campuses. They are the parents of three children. \nWebsites: www.wonderwomenthebook.com
