FORCE … Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered

We are a national nonprofit organization founded in 1999. We are devoted to improving the lives of individuals and families facing hereditary breast, ovarian, pancreatic, prostate, colorectal and endometrial cancers.

Our community includes people with a personal or family history of cancer, Lynch syndrome, a BRCA1, BRCA2, ATM, PALB2, CHEK2, PTEN or other inherited gene mutation linked to cancer. We accomplish this through our education, support, advocacy, and research efforts.

We are dedicated to providing up-to-date expert-reviewed information and resources that help people make informed medical decisions. Our strong supportive community of peers and professionals ensures that no one must face hereditary cancer alone. FORCE serves as a champion, unifying the community and advocating for awareness, access to care, and better treatment and prevention options.

For the past 26 years, FORCE has helped hereditary cancer survivors and those at high risk navigate their confusing and sometimes frightening journey.

Our FORCE brochure shares what you should know about genes and cancer.

It shares the warning signs of hereditary cancer and information about genetic counseling and testing.

Who we serve:
FORCE has created a safe and supportive welcoming community of peers and professionals, ensuring that no one has to face the risk of hereditary cancer alone.

  • FORCE is working to reach the 90% of people who are living with an inherited mutation and are unaware of their cancer risk and medical options.
  • FORCE is working to ensure that the millions of people at increased risk for cancer – a community known as “previvors” – understand their risk and are aware of the steps they can take to protect their health.
  • FORCE helps people diagnosed with cancer make decisions about genetic testing and learn if they may benefit from new treatment options or targeted therapy.
  • FORCE helps remove the barriers that keep people and families affected by hereditary cancer from accessing information and medical care.
  • For those confronting a hereditary cancer diagnosis or undergoing treatment, FORCE helps navigate what can be a confusing and frightening experience.
  • FORCE helps people share information about inherited cancer with relatives.
  • FORCE arms people who have inherited mutations that increase their risk for certain kinds of cancer with the most up-to-date information, with connections to peers and experts, and with a strong advocate by their side.
  • FORCE’s virtual support groups provide a safe and caring environment where you can meet peers, trained volunteers, and Genetic Counselors who understand what you are going through and the decisions you are facing.
  • FORCE’s Peer Navigation Program matches individuals with trained volunteers who share a similar experience and provide confidential phone support and personalized guidance.
  • FORCE’s message boards and Hereditary Cancer Community Facebook group offer peer support and resources available 24/7.
  • FORCE’s search and enroll tool helps you search for cancer prevention, treatment, and quality of life studies enrolling people with or at high risk for hereditary cancers.

Learn about your family history and discuss it with your doctor or a genetic counselor. You can find a genetic counselor at the National Society of Genetic Counselors website: https://www.nsgc.org.

I develop support programs for volunteers to execute virtually to empower others to make informed decisions with their health care providers and to ensure no one has to face hereditary cancer alone. My responsibilities include recruiting, vetting, training, and managing hundreds of volunteers in the roles of Research Advocates, Peer and Genetic Led Outreach Leaders, Peer Navigators, Message Board Moderators, Helpline and Project Volunteers for FORCE, a nonprofit hereditary cancer organization.
