On April 29, 2004, Nancy went to her doctor thinking she had appendicitis. Instead, she heard the words no one expects … stage 4 ovarian cancer that had spread to her liver. Her ovary was the size of a grapefruit, her liver had doubled in size, and her future was uncertain.
But in that moment, her oncologist told her four words that changed everything: “I am with you.”
Those words became her anchor. Through years of aggressive chemotherapy, countless frightening complications, and moments of overwhelming fear, Nancy discovered the healing power of trust. She leaned into the kindness of her oncologist, the compassion of nurses she calls “angels in my midst,” and the unwavering love of her family and friends, who named themselves “Nancy’s A Team.” She learned to let in blessings, prayers, and hope. That opening of her heart —her willingness to receive — became just as important as the medicine.
Nancy also found guidance in her mentor, Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen, who helped her redefine her relationship with illness and embrace the “will to live.” She discovered courage, compassion, resilience, and immense gratitude. She learned not to fight her body but to partner with it, listening to what it needed to heal. Against all odds, Nancy has now lived 21 years cancer-free.
In 2006, out of gratitude for her recovery and a deep calling to give back, Nancy launched Nancy’s List. What began as her personal vow that no one would ever go through cancer alone has grown into a community of love and practical support for patients and families around the world. Nancy’s List is more than a resource — it is a lifeline born from lived experience, built on trust, and sustained by generosity.
Today, Nancy’s List continues to bring light to those in the darkest moments, reminding them that healing is not only physical, but also emotional and spiritual. It is a place where courage is encouraged, compassion is shared, and hope is restored.
