Matthew McCurdy MD PhD, Radiation Oncologist / Integrative Oncologist

Matthew McCurdy MD PhD is Board Certified in Radiation Oncology and Integrative Medicine. In addition to offering all of the latest technology and knowledge for patients needing radiation treatments, Dr. McCurdy empowers all cancer patients, whether receiving radiation or not, with integrative medicine throughout their cancer treatment and survivorship.Integrative medicine enhances well being, improves quality of life, and promotes cancer cure. Dr. McCurdy received his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and PhD in Bioengineering at Rice University in Houston as part of a National Institutes of Health-funded dual degree MD/PhD program. Dr. McCurdy completed residency training at Baylor College of Medicine with a 6 month research track and a 1 month brachytherapy fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He was designated a “Top Doctor” in 2012. Dr. McCurdy has numerous research publications and was awarding the Roentgen Award, Oncologist Award, and numerous scholarships and travel grants for his efforts.

Dr. McCurdy serves on the Clinical Committee and Gynecology Oncology Special Interest Group of the Society of Integrative Oncology, a non-profit professional society of physicians, naturopathic doctors, acupunturists, chiropractors, and many other practiioners with the goal of advancing integrative oncology through research and education.

Dr. McCurdy practices what he preaches. Formerly an elite triathlete, he competes in marathons competitively. He eats a plant-based anti-inflammatory diet. He plays the trumpet and piano and sings. Dr. McCurdy finds purpose in life with his wife and two kids and volunteering in the community.

At the Center for Integrative Oncology at Austin Cancer Center, we aim to treat the whole person with cancer using all evidence-informed integrative medicine modalities, to foster close collaboration among integrative providers both within and outside of our system to provide the optimum treatment and wellness plan while empowering the patient, to assist in bringing these modalities to all people with cancer despite financial and other barriers, and to support research and teaching in integrative oncology with the Dell Medical School, the acupuncture schools, The University of Texas College of Pharmacy, and other local institutions.

Why Integrative Oncology?
Conventional cancer treatments often cause significant and lingering side effects. Integrative oncology helps empower patients to achieve wellness and help prevent recurrence during treatment and survivorship.
