Camp Ta-Kum-Ta provides challenging and extraordinary experiences in a safe and loving environment for children who have or have had cancer and their families.
Camp exists for Vermont and Northern New York children, (including other out-of-state children who are treated in Vermont) at no cost to their families.
Our signature program is a week-long Summer Session where kids partake in traditional camp activities such as swimming, athletics, ropes course, and arts and crafts. Camp Ta-Kum-Ta offers once-in-a-lifetime opportunities such as rock climbing expeditions, hot-air balloon rides, formal dances, as well as cruises on beautiful Lake Champlain.
Our Winter Weekends are filled with all the fun and friendships of our summer residential program, but they are only a weekend long and campers will have the opportunity to try great outdoor activities if they choose. Some of the activities will be snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, and sleigh rides. At winter weekend, the campers will have a choice of an indoor and outdoor activity each hour.
MOMs Retreat
During this weekend, we have great plans for mothers of children who have or have had cancer. We offer these moms a relaxing weekend which will include spa treatments, relaxation, pampering, and discussion sessions. Walks and great food are also on the agenda. Each mom will also receive a wonderful Camp Ta-Kum-Ta special gift such as a tote bag with a spa robe. This weekend is being offered free of charge to all of our moms who have had a child attend our camp. However, space is limited to only 20 moms.
Exchange Program with Camp Rapahope in Mobile, Alabama
Camp Ta-Kum-Ta in South Hero, Vermont and Camp Rapahope in Mobile, Alabama are the first pediatric oncology camps to create an exchange program.
Each year campers and counselors from Camp Rapahope come to Vermont to participate in one of our Winter Programs in March. In exchange, Camp Ta-Kum-Ta sends campers and counselors down to Camp Rap-A-Hope for their Teen Weekend held in February!
This is an excellent way for Camp Ta-Kum-Ta’s campers to experience Camp Rapahope. They create lifelong memories and make new friends.
