One of the most important decisions you can make after a diagnosis of cancer is where to get your care. Not all places are equal. There are fewer than 50 centers in the United States that are designated by the National Cancer Institute as Comprehensive Cancer Centers. These are extraordinary places where the toughest cancer cases are successfully diagnosed and treated. Moores Cancer Center is one of them — and the only one in the San Diego region.
Our doctors are focused on one thing: making sure you receive the most advanced and effective treatments available for your unique diagnosis.
Our 14 cancer teams include top experts from every subspecialty area, including common and rare cancers. Our doctors help decide the nation’s guidelines for cancer care — which means you are assured of receiving the most promising treatments available.
They meet regularly to discuss your case and the best recommendations for your situation, including new immunotherapy and precision-targeted treatments that are available only through clinical trials.
That is why Moores Cancer Center is ranked among the top 50 oncology programs in the nation.
We treat each of our patients as individuals. After Marine Staff Sergeant Clay Treska was diagnosed with terminal testicular cancer and given four months to live, he came to UC San Diego Health. While undergoing the cancer treatment that ultimately saved his life, he did the unthinkable — he trained for his first Ironman triathlon.
Moores Cancer Center was designed with you and your family in mind. Our distinctive building, which surrounds a bamboo courtyard, is located on UC San Diego Health’s La Jolla campus. It unites cancer-related research laboratories, clinical trials, prevention and outreach programs, and patient care under one roof — a design that encourages interaction and intellectual exchanges between our world-renowned clinicians and researchers.
In fact, many Moores Cancer Center medical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and surgeons are physician-scientists who not only care for patients, but also work to discover, develop and test new and better treatments in their laboratories.
Procedures that require an overnight stay are usually performed at Jacobs Medical Center. This world-class hospital includes three floors dedicated to advanced oncology care and a surgery pavilion that offers minimally invasive approaches, robotics, transplantation and other combinations of 3D technologies and lifesaving techniques that are only found at UC San Diego Health.
