Because no one should go through cancer alone.
Everyone is touched by cancer at some point in their lives, either as a patient or as a loved one. Cancer Lifeline helps thousands of cancer patients build strength through our support groups, classes in nutrition, exercise, personal expression, stress reduction, and personalized emotional support.
Whether you are newly diagnosed, through treatment and looking to adjust to the new reality, or you know someone with cancer, Cancer Lifeline has services that can meet you where you are now, and help you.
Diversity and Equality
Diversity is highly valued at Cancer Lifeline and we welcome all people whatever their age, race, color, gender, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, marital status, sexual orientation or genetic information.
Optimizing the Quality of Life for all People Living with Cancer
Recognizing a lack of emotional support for cancer patients, Gloria Gutkowski decided to start an effort to connect cancer patients with compassionate volunteers who would listen to their fears and concerns. With the advice and encouragement of doctors, nurses, social workers, family and friends, Cancer Lifeline was born in 1973.
Since then, Cancer Lifeline has evolved to become the region’s pre-eminent organization providing innovative programs and services, all free of charge, to cancer patients and their loved ones.
Today we offer: Telephone Lifeline and Online Lifeline Chat; mental health counseling for individuals, families, children and healthcare workers; teen expressive arts group therapy; financial support services for low-income cancer patients; educational programs; support groups; and customized consultation services for individuals, organizations and workplace teams.
The caring, listening, and support has continued without pause since 1973 and is the heart of what Cancer Lifeline does every day.
Our years of experience have revealed four common needs which guide our programming:
Need for Information
Need for Inclusion not Isolation
Need to Express Feelings Without Fear of Judgement
Need for Choice and Control
Cancer Lifeline is committed to broadening access to our services through hospital partnerships, access to up-to-date cancer resources, and by sharing our expertise with like-minded community organizations who want to develop their own programs.
Cancer Lifeline helps thousands of cancer patients build strength through our support groups, classes in nutrition, exercise, personal expression and stress reduction, and personalized emotional support.
Whether you are newly diagnosed, through treatment and looking to adjust to the new reality, or you know someone with cancer, Cancer Lifeline has services that can meet you where you are now, and help you.
