I am a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine practicing at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Cancer Center. My doctoral research was a pilot study on the use of acupuncture for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. For the past decade, I have worked collaboratively with oncologists and other health professionals within the field of integrative oncology. As an adjunct professor at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM), in San Diego, I designed and taught a course in integrative oncology. As a clinical supervisor at PCOM, I created an integrative oncology clinical rotation for students of Chinese medicine.
In 2008, I created a clinic that is free to all cancer patients in the community in our UCSD Encinitas cancer center. This clinic is a partnership between UCSD and Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. I serve as the clinical supervisor and I have 4 students two days per week treating the patients. Patients don’t have to be UCSD patients to receive free acupuncture.
In addition to treating patients and overseeing integrative services at UCSD, I offer integrative oncology consultations, either in person or through phone, Skype or zoom. I help patients understand their oncology diagnosis and treatment, navigate the medical system, and build intelligent and safe healing teams, understand which herbal supplements are safe, offer safe nutritional guidance, and more.
