Leslie is a founding member of the Institute for Health & Healing, one of the nation’s first and largest hospital-based integrative medicine programs. Her 25 years of medical experience developing an empowering and collaborative approach to resolving crisis has informed her climate psychology model.

As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in practice for more than twenty-five years, she understands the health and cultural impact of thoughts and emotions. And a passion for the mystery of the human spirit drew her to become an ordained interfaith minister. Grounded in evidence-based and rigorously researched therapies including Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Therapies, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), she has braided her expertise with state-of-the-art training into an approach that helps people effectively step into a meaningful, eco-wise life.
Leslie’s years of clinical experience culminated in the publication of three books: Emotional Resiliency in the Era of Climate Change, Healing and Transformation through Self-Guided Imagery, and Transformative Imagery: Cultivating the Imagination for Healing, Change, and Growth (Ed.). Her upcoming book All the Feelins Under the Sun, will provide kids with tools for navigating a warming world with emotional resiliency. It will be released September 2021 through the American Psychological Association’s children’s book division, Magination Press. She was also a reviewer with the American Psychological Association, EcoAmerica and Climate for Health to help shape the document: “Mental Health and Our Changing Climate: Impacts, Implications, and Guidance.” She has contributed a chapter to Existential Toolkit for Climate Justice Educators (2022), Integrative Rehabilitation Practice, and an essay for Parker Palmer’s book, The Heart of Higher Education. She served as Editorial Consultant to Aspen Publishers for their book, Holistic Health Promotion and Complementary Therapies: A Resource for Integrative Practice and wrote a series of articles on wellness themes for Huffington Post.
Currently she serves in a climate psychology advisory role to One Resilient Earth, Project InsideOut, and the Integrative Healers Action Network. She has participated in interdisciplinary climate think tanks hosted by the Post Carbon Institute and Institute for Policy Studies.
Leslie has extensive teaching experience at universities including Mills College, University of San Francisco, California State University Hayward, Holy Names University, Five Branches University, and she served as core faculty with the Transpersonal Psychology Graduate Program at John F. Kennedy University.
An engaging speaker, she lectures in a broad range of setting that has included ABC7 News, KRON4 Television, Climate One at the Commonwealth Club, the National Wellness Conference, Uncovering the Heart of Higher Education Conference, to name just a few. She was honored with the Marin Breast Cancer Council’s “Honor Thy Healer” award in 2003, and Imagery Person of the Year through Imagery International, Inc. in 2014.
Leslie currently divides her time between the Tacoma/Seattle and San Francisco Bay areas with offices in both locations. She is on faculty with the Professional School of Psychology and Health at the California Institute of Integral Studies.
