I run the psychosocial component and support group of an organization called The Haitian Community Cancer Initiative (HCCI), an organization that addresses the needs of Haitian cancer survivors and their caregivers living in Miami. I provide a supportive and empathic space to explore their options, redefine and discuss their priorities. I also run a free bi-monthly Support Group in Creole for Haitians dealing with cancer.
Various factors play a role in the many ways we construct our identities. I work with adults and older adolescents struggling with emotional difficulties that impact their abilities to be their best selves. I strive to create a safe and empathic space where one can express and explore painful feelings, share difficult life circumstances and grow more resilient. Challenges associated with acculturation for recent and second generation immigrants, as well as gender and affectional orientation, are particular areas of interest.
As a psychotherapist and board certified psychiatrist in Haiti, I use a psychodynamic approach that allows for in-depth exploration and supports self-growth and change.
I work with adults and adolescents facing various life challenges, wanting to make sense of their lives, their relationships or working at understanding and embracing who they are. Over the years, I have accompanied cancer patients and their families, providing them a space in which they could grieve and nurture themselves, redefine their priorities, and validate their coping skills.
Addressing acculturation issues affecting recent or second generation immigrants, creating safe spaces where gender and affectional orientation can be explored areal so important areas of my work. I conduct therapy sessions in English, French or Haitian Creole.
