Treatment decisions, relationship changes, body changes, the roller coaster of emotions … all of this takes its toll on families. Finding a therapist who has been specifically trained and credentialed in this type of support is crucial during this time.
I became a Board Certified Oncology Social Worker early in my career. I stay current in research and treatment, cancer resources, as well as the special issues of cancer survivorship.
I have completed 8 hours of training in Insurance and Financial Cancer Navigation in an effort to assist my clients in avoiding the FINANCIAL TOXICITY of a cancer diagnosis. When appropriate, I utilize Mindfulness Based Cancer Recovery techniques that have been proven to lessen the emotional and physical impact of cancer on the patient and on the caregiver.
I was the Clinical Director of the St. Louis Affiliate of the Cancer Support Community for 5 years and continued my work with CSC as a Community Navigator on their national helpline for 9 years.
I completed training with the LiveStrong Foundation in Texas for post-cancer recovery exercise, the American Cancer Society, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine and hold a Yoga4Cancer Certification as a Registered Yoga Teacher. As a 2 decade survivor and my ongoing role in co-piloting my husband through a chronic cancer, I have a unique perspective of the needs of patients and their families.
With over 25 years of combined experience as a palliative care and hospice therapist and as Clinical Program Director of the St. Louis Cancer Support Community affiliate in St. Louis, I enjoy connecting people with resources that may make their disease and lifestyle challenges a little less complicated.
