I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a clinical practice devoted to treating cancer patients and survivors and their family members, throughout the cancer continuum – diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, end of life, and grief.
Psycho-Oncology is the application of psychology across the cancer continuum, and it is my area of expertise. My clinical practice is devoted to treating cancer patients and survivors, as well as their families, through diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, end of life, and grief. I offer therapeutic services designed to enhance the quality of life for those affected by cancer.
I have 30 years of experience serving individuals diagnosed with cancer, as well as their loved ones. I provide both short-term and long-term therapy, and employ evidenced-based practices to ensure clients receive the best therapeutic treatment possible. I regularly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy.
The journey through cancer is seldom linear, and my clinical practice is devoted to treating cancer patients and survivors, as well as their loved ones, across the continuum of cancer. Individuals I serve include those:
- coping with a past or present cancer diagnosis.
- with an elevated risk for cancer whether due to genetics, environmental exposure, or other indicators.
- adjusting to life after surviving cancer.
- seeking to accept end of life.
- dealing with the cancer diagnosis and treatment of a loved one.
- grieving the loss of a loved one due to cancer or a cancer-related illness.
I am dedicated to my field and continue to conduct research, publish articles, deliver presentations at community and professional meetings, serve on organizational boards, and educate future generations of health care providers. I bring this passion for psycho-oncology into my practice, and ensure that clients receive the best and most clinically sound treatment available.
I worked as the manager of the Siteman Counseling Service for the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital from February 1999 until March 2018. I am a Fellow of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society and its current President. I have an appointment as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, doing research focused on issues related to psychological adjustment and quality of life in cancer patients and survivors.
