Denise Giovinazzo LMT, CLT, S4OM Certified Lymphedema Therapist, Oncology Massage Therapist

I had cancer three times and am very passionate about helping others, especially those who are going through treatment or in remission.

Manual Lymph Drainage, also known as MLD or Lymph Therapy, is an extremely gentle and relaxing specialized hands-on physical technique that promotes the movement of lymph through the available lymph pathways. Lymph Therapy can be a very useful tool pre- and post- surgery to help the body reduce and cope with post-operative swelling. It is useful to the healthy person as a cleansing internal “detox” or purely for relaxation. It has many applications for general health problems and can help people with skin problems, sinus congestion, migraines and bruising/edema. It can help boost the immune system. It is also great to have during and post-pregnancy and can help with pregnancy-related carpal tunnel, puffy ankles, and fluid retention.

Go to my Manual Lymph Therapy page to obtain additional information about our Lymphatic system and FAQ’s about MLD. Knowledge is Power and the more you know the better your treatment will be.

Oncology Massage is generally considered part of complementary and alternative medicine. It is increasingly offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations.

Studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension.

It improves sleep
Not only can massage encourage a restful sleep — it also helps those who can’t otherwise comfortably rest.
Boosts Immunity
A 2010 study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that massage boosts patients’ white blood cell count (which plays a large role in defending the body from disease).
Soothes anxiety and depression
Human touch in a context that is safe, friendly and professional can be incredibly therapeutic and relaxing. Women diagnosed with breast cancer who received massage therapy three times a week reported being less depressed and less angry, according to a study published in the International Journal of Neuroscience.
It counteracts all the sitting you do
Desk workers, beware. More advanced forms of postural stress show up as pain or weakness in the low back and glute muscles caused by prolonged periods of sitting. Luckily, massage can counteract the imbalance caused from sitting, which means you can keep your desk job — as long as you schedule a regular massage.
Relieves Headaches
Research from Granada University in Spain found that a single session of massage therapy has an immediate effect on perceived pain in patients with chronic tension headaches.
It eases muscle pain
A 2011 study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that massage therapy is as effective as other methods of treatment for chronic back pain.

I deeply believe in the healing power of touch, specifically Lymph Therapy and Oncology Massage. My goal as a practitioner and therapist is to fully listen to my clients’ concerns and desires. I strive to provide a safe space for you, provide relaxation and rejuvenation through the benefits of bodywork and therapeutic massage.
