Dr. Poppito heads the new Behavioral Health Oncology Patient Evaluation (Bhope) & Consultation Service at Baylor University Medical Center’s Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center in Dallas TX. This Behavioral Health Oncology (Bhope) Service offers a novel integrative approach to providing person-centered bio-medical, psycho-social, existential-spiritual care for cancer patients across the continuum of cancer diagnoses and staging.
Dr. Poppito completed her Psycho-Oncology fellowship training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where she manualized and provided individual and group formats of Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy for advanced cancer patients. She went on to serve as Assistant Attending Psychologist and Co-Director of Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s Psychotherapy Laboratory, and from there served as Director of Psychology Service at City of Hope Cancer Center.
Dr. Poppito co-authored two Oxford University Press books on Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy (international translations), and has published and presented extensively on existential-developmental (life-transitional) issues in cancer and palliative care.
