Being diagnosed with cancer — or any serious or life-threatening illness — is a life-altering experience. We are abruptly thrown into a new world of physical symptoms, healthcare decisions, changes in relationships, losses and fears. Treatment brings its own arduous demands, while the end of treatment is a leap into an unknown future. Existential questions emerge as we face our mortality and our values shift as we create new priorities and meaning for ourselves.
The support of family, friends and care providers is vital as we navigate through this difficult time. It can also be extremely helpful to utilize the assistance of a psychotherapist who knows the physical, emotional, relational and spiritual demands that serious illness can make.
As a cancer survivor and a former physical therapist who became a psychotherapist after my own encounter with illness, I am committed to assisting others facing such challenges. In my work, I offer tools to help with the inevitable fears, anxiety and losses. I also encourage exploration, affirmation and re-shaping of relationships and life purpose. Along with deep inquiry and conversation, I also use the arts and guided visualization for clarification and healing of unresolved problems.
If you feel that you want a safe and confidential place to investigate how you will create your new life with or recovering from illness, please do not hesitate to call. I am happy to offer you a free 30-minute phone consultation.
