In 2007, Sally opened Thérapie with the goal of using her experience with massage to help others become pain-free. In 2008, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and her goal became even more focused. Following her subsequent surgeries and complications, Sally found that certain massage, bodywork, and lymphatic drainage techniques were immensely helpful to relieve her pain and restore her range-of-motion. She developed ‘The Spurgeon Method’™ which helps women in their recovery from all types of breast surgery.
While volunteering at The Caring Place, Sally met many other women who had undergone mastectomy surgeries and who were still in pain, with restricted range-of motion, years after their surgery. They had come to believe that this was ‘the norm’ for breast cancer survivors. It became apparent that there was a huge need for this type of bodywork.
Breast Massage – The Spurgeon Method™ is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. This class is now available to massage and health-care providers everywhere and the technique is used in the Ayurvedic Breast Massage offered in the Spa at The Chopra Center in Carlsbad, CA.
