I have been a therapist for 17 years and am passionate about my work. I work with oncology clients from the first stage of cancer, through their treatments and recovery and the last stages of life. Treatment is custom-designed for the type of cancer and type of treatment that one has received. I specialize in surgery recovery, radiation recovery, scar tissue, cording, and lymphoma effects.
The greatest gift of understanding the human body is realizing the connection between our spiritual and emotional being and our physical body. All three are connected and cannot be divided. As a therapist, I need to understand how the intangibles (spirit and emotion) affect the tangible (physical).
The clients who receive a massage 24-48 hours before any chemotherapy or radiation experience better treatment with less side effects on their physical body.
I am member of the Society for Oncology Massage, Inc. For the past 15 years, I have worked with many cancer clients. They all felt massage enhanced their quality of life. Clients in hospice care find that massage allows them to relax, get a good night’s sleep, be more alert during the day, and have less strain on their body.
Massage is not a cure, but a way to live better in your body. This has also expanded my desire to teach loved ones how to touch those affected with cancer. It is not a full massage program but a simple way that loved ones can help learn to share loving, conscious touch.
The blessings of touch and massage can’t be measured with a ruler. Less stress, increase in circulation, mobility, quality of life, quality of sleep, decrease in anxiety and tension are just a few of the outcomes of the work together.
I welcome the opportunity to work with any client during any stage of treatment.
