To be a Big Sky Kid at Eagle Mount is to experience the incredible wonders of Montana’s outdoors, even as you face the challenges cancer has brought into your life. Big Sky Kids empowers participants to escape the confines of treatment schedules and hospital walls and experience all the thrills that our state has to offer!
Through this program, children and young adults aged 5 to 23, along with their families, can attend medically-supervised camps that promote strength, wellness, fun, and freedom in an inspiring natural landscape. You will make new friends and memories, and forge meaningful connections that bring deep emotional support both during and after your camp experience.
Begun in 1985, Big Sky Kids serves young people with cancer from Montana and all over the U.S. We provide four different oncology summer camps, as well as a family ski weekend every spring. Our camps are centered around exciting Montana adventures such as white-water rafting, horseback riding, kayaking, fishing, zip-lining, and touring the wonders of Yellowstone National Park.
Eagle Mount Bozeman is committed to providing quality therapeutic recreational opportunities for people with disabilities and young people with cancer and to provide support for families of participants so “they shall mount up with wings as eagles.”
Since 1982, Eagle Mount has been transforming the lives of people with disabilities and children with cancer. Eagle Mount opens up a world of adventures – skiing, horseback riding, swimming, camping, rock climbing, kayaking, cycling, fishing, and more – that foster freedom, joy, strength, focus, and confidence. Set under the beauty of Montana’s legendary Big Sky, Eagle Mount focuses on people’s abilities, while gently supporting their disabilities.
Young Adult Retreat
Are you ready to have fun in the great outdoors after reaching remission? Our Young Adult Retreat (YAR) is designed for young adults ages 18 to 26 whose cancer is in remission. For a full week, campers are immersed in adventurous outdoor activities, the camaraderie of a small group, and opportunities to develop unique and powerful leadership skills. YAR is a traveling camp with an itinerary that changes from year to year, so returning campers are given the chance to see multiple facets of Montana’s beauty. This retreat is medically supervised by a volunteer nurse, and the only cost for our YAR campers is transportation to and from their homes.
Flight Camp with Summit Aviation
Do you long to take to the skies? Flight Camp is designed for young adult cancer survivors aged 18 or older with dreams of flying. In partnership with Summit Aviation, Big Sky Kids provides four campers the opportunity to learn how to fly a plane and see the beauty of Montana from an entirely new perspective. Campers get hands-on during this 5 day adventure! Each morning starts with participants and their certified flight instructors conducting a pre-flight inspection on Summit’s aircraft before taking to the skies! All flight lessons take place above some of the best views Montana has to offer, as campers learn basic aircraft control and how to perform basic maneuvers; by the end of the week many are even performing their own take-offs and landings! Campers return from their morning flights to delicious themed lunches, afternoons tours of Bozeman International Airport facilities (including emergency response operations, the air traffic control tower, and private jets) and a ground lesson where instructors go over flight controls and aerodynamics, helpful tips for landing smoothly, and how to plan a cross-country flight. The week culminates in a graduation flight to Driggs, ID, during which campers get a bird’s eye view of the majestic Yellowstone National Park and Grand Tetons!
Virtual Gatherings
Because Big Sky Kids campers come from all over the country, it’s not always easy to stay connected after camp is over. Through virtual game nights and gatherings, we are making sure there are opportunities to connect with friends new and old from the comfort of home.
Our Big Sky Kids program is designed for children and young adults with cancer. They enjoy Montana adventures such as white-water rafting, horseback riding, kayaking, fishing, zip-lining, and touring the wonders of Yellowstone National Park. Each Big Sky Kids camp is medically supervised.
As long as there are people with disabilities,
as long as there are children who get cancer,
as long as Montana has the power to heal so much
and be of such great benefit to people,
Eagle Mount needs to be here.
With your support, we will!
