Camp Casey spreads the healing power of horses one neigh at a time.
We envision a way for every family affected by childhood disease to experience the joy of horses.
Camp Casey is absolutely FREE for your entire family! These 1-day horseback riding retreats encourage campers to bring their siblings (no limits … bring them all). If siblings cannot attend (or if camper is an only child), we encourage campers to bring along one friend
Camp Casey is a 501(c)(3) non-profit horseback riding organization for children with cancer and rare blood disorders. Camp Casey has spread the healing power of horses to Michigan families since 2004.
Casey Foote was not very different from other 10-year-old girls. She loved the outdoors and had an active imagination and adored animals. Casey was battling bone and brain cancer and died just after her 12th birthday.
During the last few years of her life, Casey was introduced to a horse farm where she spent many afternoons grooming and riding her favorite horse. Even as chemotherapy, surgeries and the emotional weight of cancer kept Casey physically weak, she never let her illness get in the way of bonding with horses and friends.
Connecting with horses allowed Casey to be a kid again and kept her and her family strong during their difficult fight.
Watching Casey interact with horses was therapeutic for her family as well. When Casey was at the barn, they were able to witness an instant transformation as her hospital gown was replaced with boots and breeches.
Casey would have loved for other children and their families to experience the joy that horses once gave her. We are proud to keep Casey’s legacy alive and enable children, like Casey, to apply the strength gained from our program to their fight against cancer.

While Camp Casey was excited to continue to serve children in Michigan with cancer and life-threatening illnesses with cost-free horseback riding programs this summer, we made necessary modifications to our programs to ensure the health, safety, and happiness of our campers, their families, and all involved with our programs.
Horsey House Calls
We deliver “horse camp” to the homes of children who are often too sick to attend regular summer camp. We knock on the door and surprise the camper with a horse at their home and an afternoon filled with fun! We stay for the afternoon to provide:
- A horse grooming and safety lesson
- Individual horseback rides
- Team building games
- Arts-and-crafts project
- Hand-made horse treats
- A pizza party
Cowboy Camp Outs
We provide all-inclusive weekend getaways at a dude ranch resort for the whole family to enjoy together and meet other families going through similar circumstances. Surrounded by others going through similar circumstances, families enjoy:
- Trail rides
- Private, luxurious family cabins
- Campfires (and s’mores!)
- Indoor and outdoor water park
- Outdoor activities and games
- Peaceful, unplugged atmosphere
Lone Star Getaways
We connect our families with privately-owned rental properties across the state of Michigan and send them on a cost-free vacation for the camper and their immediate family to enjoy. We send families on vacations in destinations including:
- Frankenmuth
- Pentwater
- Ludington
- Bellaire
- Cadillac
- And more!
Outlaw Outings
We invite Camp Casey families that had previously been served with a Horsey House Call, Cowboy Camp Out, or Lone Star Getaway to one-day recreational activities throughout the year to enjoy with their family and others affected by childhood illness. We retain relationships with previously served families by providing:
- Horseback riding
- Trips to the spa
- Apple picking excursions
- Day trips across Michigan
- Tickets to professional sporting events
