A Time to Heal Cancer Foundation, Supportive Care and Education

Our Mission
We provide support, education, and empowerment so that cancer survivors and their caregivers may create their best lives.

Our History
The founders of A Time to Heal Cancer Foundation are Dr. Stephanie Koraleski and Dr. Kay Ryan. Stephanie is a cancer center psychologist and the daughter of a breast cancer survivor. Kay is a nurse, breast cancer survivor, health care consultant, speaker, and trainer. Following Kay’s diagnosis and treatment, she was disappointed to learn there was no rehabilitation program to help her. This led to the idea that would become A Time To Heal Cancer Foundation in 2005. In 2009, A Time To Heal Cancer Foundation received its independent 501(c)(3) status from the Internal Revenue Service.

Our Programs
Dr. Koraleski and Dr. Ryan developed Survivorship 101 to give survivors access to the tools they need to help their quality of life after cancer. This whole-person rehabilitation program is designed to help people regain their physical, emotional, and spiritual health after cancer treatment.

Since it began, research and experience have shown that individual components of our classes and support groups make a positive difference in the well-being of cancer survivors. Research has also shown cancer survivors who have information, make healthy choices, and feel able to make a difference in their own lives can do very well after treatment.

In 2014, an 8-week cancer-related Brain Fog class was launched to help people learn ways to cope with “chemobrain” – loss of clarity and memory issues related to cancer treatment. Support groups for Advanced/Metastatic Cancer were also implemented for cancer survivors and caregivers.

Program Expansion
In 2010, programming for survivors of all cancers as well as their caregivers was offered. Sessions were started in several locations across Nebraska, including Omaha, Grand Island, Norfolk, Kearney, Lincoln and Scottsbluff. In 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, online classes were offered for the first time, enabling survivors from across the state, region and even nationally to participate. Survivorship 101 was adapted to a 9-week, 90 minute per session program for both survivors and caregivers. Brain Fog remains an 8-week program, also 90 minutes per session. Participation and demand continues to increase for these FREE sessions that will continue to be offered even after in-person sessions are able to resume.

Our Values
Compassion for all touched by cancer
Deep respect for every person’s potential for wellness
Commitment to proven strategies
Collaboration with the healthcare community
