A MESSAGE FROM DR. NASHA
At the age of 19, I was diagnosed with end-stage ovarian cancer and given 3-6 months to live. Crippled with pain, nausea, infections, malnourishment, and muscle wasting, I was uninsured and out of options. But I was also young, naïve, and stubborn. It was up to me to dig deep and find hope. The diagnosis of terminal cancer suddenly shook me awake.
Since that diagnosis in 1991, the years have unfolded as a journey that I continue to this day. What began as a pursuit to heal my own body has evolved into a global mission to transform cancer care.
From Survivor to Physician
I started naturopathic medical school five years after receiving my terminal diagnosis of cancer. It offered me a safe haven to explore the basic sciences, nutrition, lifestyle, supplements, intravenous protocols, laboratory assessments, mind-body healing, and homeopathy. Because of my own health issues, I applied everything I was learning to myself before trying it with patients.
During school, I vowed that I would never work with cancer patients. But within my first few months in private practice, I was blessed with the opportunity to support a cancer patient in miraculous ways. My career had chosen me.
From my work with thousands of cancer patients over the years, I have learned that there is no magic pill. Cancer is not a single disease and has no single cure. We need to listen deeply to the cells of the body (with labs, molecular profiling, tissue assays, epigenetic testing, and more). We need to metabolically support the body’s terrain (with oxidative therapy, therapeutic diet, stress reduction, and other therapies). When we do these things, the body can survive and thrive.
From Physician to Mentor
It was the decades of experience with my patients that led to the writing of The Metabolic Approach to Cancer. It is my hope that the book will not only share what I have learned along the way but also inspire others to continue to dig deeper — to address the collection of hundreds of illnesses that make up cancer and chronic disease.
Over the last few years, I have travelled the world to share the message of the metabolic approach to cancer. I have spoken with audiences of incredible physicians who have committed their careers to supporting patients with cancer. Through these experiences, I have learned an important lesson: doctors need support too.
I offer doctor-to-doctor consultations and intensive mentorships for clinicians who want to more deeply understand metabolic and integrative approaches to cancer. There are so many nuances to implementing an integrative and metabolic approach with cancer patients. When we put our heads together, we can achieve better outcomes. I am here to guide clinicians to become masters of the metabolic approach.
Dr. Winters is the Executive Director of the Metabolic Terrain Institute of Health. The mission is to build a residential integrative oncology hospital and research institution in Southeast Arizona … it is now underway.

Our approach focuses on transforming the cancer terrain (the patient’s body and environment) by addressing key elements that play a crucial role in prevention and healing.
We identified the top ten of these elements which we call the Terrain Ten™
Genetic, epigenetic, and nutrigenomic modifications
Blood sugar balance
Toxic burden management
Repopulating and balancing the microbiomE
Immune system maximization
Modulating inflammation and oxidative stress
Enhancing blood circulation while inhibiting angiogenesis and metastasis
Establishing hormone balance
Recalibrating stress levels and biorhythms
Enhancing mental and emotional well-being
We review in depth how to Test, Assess, Address™ each of these terrain areas so that you have more tools to help you heal more patients.
As we continue to break new ground in the field of cancer treatment, the Terrain Advocate Program stands at the forefront of this transformation. Our unique approach to Metabolic Oncology, emphasizing the treatment of the individual rather than just the tumor, has sparked a significant level of interest.

Mistletoe and Emerging Future of Integrative Oncology.
Human disease is an elaborate dance between behavior, our environment, and chance. Medicine tries to tame human disease with science, but when our knowledge falls short, disease wins. This is too often the case with cancer. We spend billions of dollars each year trying to better understand it and develop tools to ease its effects.
Today, many allopathic medical practitioners are beginning to seek out a greater connection with holistic and integrative approaches. The authors of this book introduce one specific therapy and make a case for integrative health in general, including anthroposophically extended medicine, naturopathy, and other holistic approaches.
Mistletoe therapy has long been considered a viable treatment for cancer by the European medical community and is beginning to gain recognition in North America as well. The mistletoe plant possesses many remarkable properties. As a therapy, it represents a rediscovery of ancient wisdom and shows us how the science of modern medicine might expand its reach and reconnect with a more human-centered medicine.
The book was structured following the syllabus for a three-day practitioner training hosted by the Physicians’ Association for Anthroposophic Medicine (PAAM). The chapters highlight several of our key lectures in a condensed form. The book serves as an introductory summary of ― not a replacement for ― those intensive professional trainings.
While this book should not be regarded as a treatment or diagnostic manual, it is intended to both prepare practitioners to begin mistletoe therapy training and to make this information available in an accessible form to anyone interested in learning about this approach to treating cancer.
Please note that Dr. Nasha is focusing on supporting clinicians through doctor-to-doctor consults and intensive mentorship. She is no longer seeing clients directly. If you are a patient and would like your doctor to consult with Dr. Nasha, please have your provider contact us directly.
