Rebecca Leary Safon, Founder at Rebecca Leary Yoga+Meditation, Yoga4Cancer Teacher, Meditation and Mindfulness

I am a professionally-trained Yoga 4 Cancer teacher, trained by Y4C Founder Tari Prinster.

I teach evidenced-based Oncology Yoga in weekly Yoga for Cancer and Meditation classes, live via Zoom, sponsored by the Cancer Support Community.

Classes are free to anyone touched by cancer, including caregivers and family members.

I also offer private yoga, yoga therapy, and meditation sessions if you want a more personalized experience.

I studied Yoga for Seniors at Duke Integrative Medicine. Creators/Instructors Kimberly Carson and Carol Krucoff completed a study on the effects of yoga on pain and stress in women with Metastatic Breast Cancer. Their findings confirm that yoga practice (especially meditation) is associated with “acute improvements in pain.”

A yoga practice is about staying in the present moment, developing your inner resources, inner strengths, to increase your capacity to tolerate distress. In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, Sutra 1.2 says Yoga Stops the Whirrings of the Mind.

Meditation is yoga, breath is yoga, movement is yoga, right living, right actions, this is all yoga.

Research shows that yoga and meditation boost the immune system, strengthen bones, increase flexibility, and reduce discomfort from the side effects of cancer treatment, improving overall well-being. Yoga and meditation can renew the body, lower stress, bring a sense of inner calm, and be an important aid to your body in its fight for recovery.

Like many people, I first came to yoga as a physical practice, and quickly learned the many ways that yoga can change lives. Yoga is much more than physical postures. It’s great for both strengthening and stretching the body, but it is the strengthening and stretching of mind, body and breath through Asana, Meditation, and Pranayama that gives yoga healing properties.

For over 20 years, I’ve worked to create a sacred space for my students and clients to explore mind, body & breath with nurturing and support.

I specialize in Therapeutic Yoga, Yoga for Cancer (Y4C), Gentle Yoga, and Meditation, as well as yoga and bodywork for women throughout their lifecycles, including pelvic floor training, yoga for seniors, and chair yoga. I am an E-RYT200 RYT500 Yoga Teacher, c-IAYT Yoga Therapist, YACEP, and licensed NMT. I have studied with Yoganand Michael Carroll/Pranakriya School of Yoga Healing Arts, Marlysa Sullivan/the Center for Integrative Yoga Studies, and Meryl Arnett/Atlanta Yoga & Meditation Instructor.
