If you are fortunate, you have found quotations that resonated with your spirit … as if the words reminded you of something you already knew or opened you to a new way of knowing and seeing and feeling. A teacher, relative, or a friend may have introduced you to thoughtful teachings that may be beneficial throughout your life.
Quotes Companion contains a selection of quotations from the writings of Tarthang Tulku, a Tibetan teacher who came to America as a refugee over fifty years ago. These powerful Quotes may promote inspiration and action and a deeper healing. The book is an invitation to write, journal, draw, imagine, and open conversations.
Genuine willingness is not squeezed out of us: it is not a question of being docile or following orders. It is inspired and inspiring, and it comes from inside.
How have you, in your healing process, distinguished between genuine willingness and following doctors’ orders? What did it feel like when you experienced ‘genuine willingness’? Did your willingness inspire you? surprise you? encourage your healing? Did your willingness teach you something about you that felt brand new?
Life exacts a price for less than full participation.
Why is full participation or engagement so important at this point in your healing? How do you experience the value of being totally aware and participating in your healing process?
Every successful excuse marks a lost opportunity.
Consider a time when you were not fully invested or engaged in your healing. And consider a time when you were. Think about your different responses, both physically and emotionally.
How “it is” need not be how it “will be.”
Open your heart to possibilities … maybe the treatment will be successful, maybe the pain will go away. Hold on to hope.
We do not thrive without kindness in our lives.
See the generosity of strangers … the angels in our midst … who are as dedicated to your healing as you are. Receive their blessings.
How have you benefitted from the many kindnesses of others?
Now, make a list of your own inner aspirations, your dreams for yourself. Look at them carefully, and consider whether they are worth a deep investment of your time and energy.
Your relationship to your cancer and your healing are yours alone. Believe in miracles. And know that you are part of the miracle of healing.
May these quotations promote peace and harmony in your life and throughout the world.

An example
Awareness generally means to be “aware of some thing”— to look at objects, to recognize, identify, and try to understand them.
This is common-sense awareness.
But as a living experience, natural awareness is simple and direct, open and responsive, without concepts, words, images and interpretations.
Awareness takes place within the first moment, not before, and not after.
It is immediate, spontaneous.
There is no other “thing” to obscure the moment—there is no subject or object, no
time or space.
All that remains is within this openness, which neither words nor concept can describe.
There is complete freedom from our restless attempts to hold on to something, to be secure in some distraction or some trance-like fixation.
There is no fear and no guilt—no desire to escape or be any other way.
There becomes complete self-acceptance and generates a fresh new outlook all its own.
