“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.”
Carl Jung

Dr. Barbara E. Mai

“Live in the sunshine, Swim in the sea, Drink the wild air.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

Our nation’s veterans and their family members are a priority to me. I also welcome clients and their pets who have been dealing with chronic medical illness and pain. I have seen clients for many years who are managing addiction and related couple/family issues. I spent decades in our military hospital settings seeing clients with all sorts of grieving concerns. From health, lifestyle, legal, and stress management to end-of-life challenges, I am delighted to assist clients to approach situations in a hopeful, pragmatic, and strategic manner with the goal of achieving greater mind, body, and spirit health and wellness.

I am privileged to have a PhD in Transpersonal Psychology with my focus on Clinical Psychology, Health Equity, Spirituality, and the Healing Arts. I am Nationally Board-Certified as an Advanced Practice Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Psychotherapist. I hold a Health Promotion Director Certification from Cooper Aerobics Institute, a Mind-Body Medicine Certification from Harvard, Benson Institute. I have done Mindfulness Training with Kabat-Zinn.
I have been recognized as a subject matter expertise and as an Adjunct Assistant Professor, USUHS, Clinical Psychology, I have served as Director of the Mind-Body Stress Clinic at Naval Hospital Bethesda, and as a Reiki Master and as the  Integrative Medicine Consult Service for NIH Clinical Center. I treated all Walter Reed Wounded Warriors recovering from amputations with Reiki and essential oil and even did Reiki for Pets!
