Jill Johnson-Young LCSW, Social Worker Specializing in Work with Caregivers, Hospice, Grief and Loss and Dementia Support, Author, Speaker

Jill Johnson-Young LCSW has a lengthy background in hospice as a social worker and administrator. She works closely with local hospices still in her role as a therapist, coordinating care for her clients and their family members when needed. She is fluent in medical terminology and, as a social worker, helps clients navigate the decision-making process and in managing illness. She is the CEO and Co-Owner of Central Counseling Services.

Jill is a speaker nationally and internationally on subjects related to reclaiming life after disability, end of life, grief, caregiving, and dementia, and intimate partner loss. She trains therapists in those areas as well. In her private practice, Jill works primarily with those impacted by illness and disability including chronic illness, as well as providing grief support and now helping those facing long Covid.

Jill also provides a monthly dementia support group for caregiving family members and friends. Her practice includes 35 clinicians who have a variety of specializations, including child and pregnancy loss, trauma, anxiety, and depression. Many of her staff are trained in EMDR, flash therapy, and brain spotting.

Jill has published five books about grief for adults and children, including pet loss. Your Own Path Through Grief; Someone I love just died, what happens now?; Someone I love is sick- what happens now?; My pet is sick- it’s time to say goodbye; The Rebellious Widow: A practical guide to love and life after loss.

On Fridays, Jill and Debra Joy Hart host the Friday Grief Chat on Facebook.

Jill is the surviving widow of two wives. Both were nurses, one of whom died after a long battle with breast cancer and then pulmonary fibrosis, and one of whom died as a result of Lewy Body Dementia. Jill is now married to a funeral director and they have a herd of elder Oodles rescued from shelters and the streets. Jill also cares for her mother who has mixed dementia. She is discovering that having a crew of grandchildren is quite a lot of fun.
