A Colorado Native!
Founder and principal of BodyCentric a fitness and wellness company. My primary mission is to encourage clients to develop a positive approach to their everyday lives and empower them to establish healthy living habits.
I am the Founder of Fitness West LLC, which began in 1991.
After working as a life skilled care specialist, a cardiac rehab specialist, personal trainer and Kinesiotherapist for over 17 years serving hundreds of clients and publishing two fitness books, I realized I was only addressing one dimension of health (the physical health).
This realization brought me to study at Naropa and receive a Masters in Transpersonal Psychotherapy. It was here that I began my quest for knowledge and learning of the Body–Brain partnership. Most of us navigate our lives in a state of sensory amnesia. Unaware that our brains (thinking and acting) are driving most of our decisions while largely ignoring the feeling aspect of our being….and thus the birth of BODYCENTRIC … . where the BODY is central to our being.
As a wellness counselor, I assist in the discovery of the Body-Brain partnership via movement (Pilates, exercise, breathing, or aquatic exercise) and discussion.
Each session leads to self-discovery with the goal of positive health. I help identify negative lifestyle behaviors that have led to chronic dis-ease (obesity, coronary heart disease, anxiety, depression, poor posture and more). After identification process we begin to create awareness that helps further the understanding of these behaviors and a personal plan towards creating and building new healthy behaviors that result in WHOLE BODY HEALTH (in mind body and spirit).
Movement, is fundamental to our being. As a Transpersonal psychotherapist, I assist in the process of integrating our bodies, (physical body, psychological body and spiritual body), with our past and with our environment. Every movement, is interwoven in the three bodies. As a therapist I witness a movement and begin engaging in a separate dialogue with each of the bodies with the individual. This dialogue helps gain knowledge to develop skills that help in healing, development, and transformation.
A wellness session focuses on body function and feeling. Whether disease, illness, or injury, our aim is to educate through bodywork, movement and therapy. The intersection of these provide knowledge of disconnection of mind and body. Each session works to re-connect the mind and the body by correcting negative movement and thought patterns toward increased mobility and less pain.
