I am a Naturopathic Doctor licensed in California and practice from San Diego California. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pharmacology studying medical cannabis. I have had a life-long fascination with health, starting my career as a midwife and herbalist in 1991. I received my ND degree from Bastyr University in Seattle in 2008. I have always been strongly connected to natural healing.
I participate in an Integrative Oncology Working Group comprised of healthcare providers across disciplines, staying up-to-date on the evidence-based emerging treatments, and safety and efficacy of integrative strategies in cancer care. I had several clinical shifts during my training that were oncology-specific and have learned integrative management of cancer patients from some of the best! I have precepted with Dr. Donald Abrams in his cancer survivorship group series.
I recently survived the devastating cancer diagnosis of my 34-year-old daughter which added a new layer of personal experience with a diagnosis for me. The role of medical trauma and incorporating trauma-informed care has become magnified in my medical practice.
I am passionate about helping cancer patients improve their quality of life and navigating their journey using patient story-telling. I employ individual, Whole Person evaluations, or brief consultations for supplement use and medical cannabis as well as group medical visits.
Don’t allow yourself to be debilitated by stress. Women are highly susceptible to the effects of stress on overall wellbeing. You can learn to adapt in healthy ways and develop resilience to help set the stage for thriving!
Change is stress and requires the need to be resilient, to adapt! To survive, our biology needs continual adjustments – intended to be temporary and then to return to set points. Our bodies have an exquisite and relatively unknown system that enables this homeostasis, the endocannabinoid system (ECS). This system provides that we Eat, Sleep, Relax, Protect and Forget. In today’s stressful world, we can use all the help we can get in restoring our set points: mentally, emotionally and physically.
There is help at hand! In Eat, Sleep, Relax, Protect, Forget, Naturopathic Doctor, researcher and herbalist and women’s health specialist of 30 years, Dr. Michelle Sexton helps you to untangle the roots of ‘dis-ease’. These roots often began before you were born as a result of stress or trauma that affected your ancestors – even generations prior to your birth. Using a toolkit of holistic and integrative practices you can go beyond simply surviving to thriving! The endocannabinoid system (ECS) will be your guide to healing the body/mind, treating the cause, and addressing the whole person for optimal health across the lifespan.
Inside Eat, Sleep, Relax, Protect, Forget you will find:
- Endocannabinoid system 101: Understand this homeostatic system and its many roles in insuring survival.
- Health Issues specific to women: How to tone the ECS for thriving, not simply surviving.
- Integrative medicine approaches: Develop a well-rounded botanical, nutritional, lifestyle and supplement-based toolkit to enhance your health, prevent illness and promote healthy aging.
- Body-Mind fluency: Increase your sense of interoception: the ability to interpret warning signals from inside your body. You can become disconnected from these signals due to past or present trauma.
- Homeostasis: Gather a diverse toolkit, available at your disposal, to evaluate your homeostasis, stress resilience, and body/mind connection.
Eat, Sleep, Relax, Protect, Forget is a gateway to botanical and natural medicines and approaches that can help bring your systems biology back online. Let this be a first step of your journey from surviving to thriving in the modern world!
Eat, Sleep, Relax, Protect, Forget is a treasure chest of priceless information.
