Each summer, cancer patients and survivors between the ages of 7-17 come together at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. They get to experience “The Greatest Camp in the History of the World” and become part of a very special family known as Camp Fiesta.
Camp Fiesta is a 9-day, sleep–away summer camp where the top priority has always been to create a FUN and healing environment for our campers both physically and emotionally.
Camp Fiesta features a wide range of traditional activities including swimming, sports, arts and crafts, canoeing and much more. This amazing camp experience is amplified by exciting South Florida field trips as well as a three day/two night adventure to Orlando theme parks.
While in Ft Lauderdale our sleeping accommodations at Birch State Park are in air-conditioned cabins equipped with bunk beds and in-cabin bathrooms. During our Orlando adventure we are always the guests of 5 star hotel accommodations.
Camp Fiesta is medically staffed around the clock and has a camper to counselor ratio of 2:1.
The majority of our counselors are cancer survivors and were once Camp Fiesta campers themselves.
In 1985 Camp Fiesta was South Florida’s first and largest camp for children with cancer created for the Childrens Cancer Caring Center by Lee Klein, Shirly Miller and Erma Podvin. Three woman who had a vision and a dream to support children and their families in need. Although they are all no longer with us, their memories and dreams will always live on in the legacy they created with our Camp Fiesta family. Today Camp Fiesta serves children from many hospitals throughout South Florida and beyond.
We are very grateful for the continued support we receive from our community, individuals and family foundations who have shared their generosity with Camp Fiesta for many years. In addition our Board of Directors and camp counselors all volunteer their time and continue to give of themselves in countless ways. This collective generosity allows us to provide our incredible Camp Fiesta experience FREE to all campers. We look forward to sharing Camp Fiesta with you and your child this summer!
