Hello! I’m Melissa, a retired chiropractor with a sports-specific focus, a certified personal trainer, and a cancer exercise specialist.
My journey into the world of health and fitness took on new meaning when I was diagnosed with cancer, despite having no family history. This unexpected diagnosis led me to re-evaluate my lifestyle, adopting healthier habits, a balanced diet, intentional exercise, and stress management techniques to prevent recurrence.
I received my Doctorate in Chiropractic from Life University and maintained a private practice for 20 years. I am a certified personal trainer through the International Sports Science Association and am a certified cancer exercise specialist through the Cancer Exercise Training Institute.
Drawing from my extensive background in health and wellness, I combine my expertise in biomechanics with a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by cancer survivors. My chiropractic training has equipped me to identify and correct posture and movement imbalances, ensuring my clients achieve optimal form and prevent further issues.
Working with clients is incredibly rewarding, especially when I see their progress firsthand. One memorable success story involves a client three years out from breast cancer treatment. She initially struggled with basic exercises due to poor muscle strength and balance. Within six weeks of personalized training, she significantly improved her strength and balance, achieving milestones she once thought impossible.
I believe in working with integrity, authenticity, and compassion. My approach to training is supportive and motivational — I’m here to guide you, not to push you beyond your limits. Together, we will navigate your health and fitness journey, ensuring you regain or maintain your strength, vitality, and overall well-being. Whether you are a cancer survivor or looking to prevent cancer, I’m committed to helping you achieve your goals and live a healthier, more fulfilling life.
The Many Faces of Cancer Podcast
As a cancer survivor and thriver, I know how important community and support are when you are facing a cancer diagnosis. That’s why I created The Many Faces of Cancer Podcast.
Each week, I interview amazing people with heartfelt and inspirational stories from all sides of the cancer journey: patients, survivors and thrivers, caregivers, family and friends, and professionals.
We never think it will happen to us … until it does. This podcast is about community, knowing you are not alone in your journey. It is also an opportunity for people to share their stories and hopefully help others.
I hope you will all tune in. While it will be cancer stories, we all learn from others and, ultimately, these are human stories, applicable to many other areas of life.
