Camp Lightheart for Children of Breast Cancer Survivors

CAMP LIGHTHEART was started by Breast Cancer Options because we realized that there are few services for children who have a parent diagnosed with breast cancer or have lost a parent to the disease. Camp is a unique and special place for children. The program features recreation, relaxation and fun as well as support for children whose families are experiencing the stress of illness.

Campers are from ages 8-15 years old and our “senior” staff is assisted by “junior” staff – former campers who love Camp Lightheart and choose to return to mentor younger kids. The campers are in a safe, nurturing, fun-loving environment. Because all of the children have the common bond of a parent diagnosed with breast cancer, this lessens their feelings of isolation, or of “feeling different”.
