Bright Reads: Books for Families Facing Cancer

Most of these books can be found at local libraries. We highly suggest reading them to your children and grandchildren to help them understand your cancer and process their feelings. Any parent with cancer (or the partner) can request 2 free books.

We purchase our Bright Reads books directly from publishers and package them with some guides, coloring sheets, and other goodies. The program is funded through an individual sponsor and grants.

Since we focus on parents of young children, we know one of the best ways to talk to them about cancer is with children’s books. It is my favorite program that we offer.
We created discussion guides to pair with books to get more mileage out of each book. They provide simple questions and activity ideas to help kids build connections to their own family and process their feelings. These are all free/downloadable and we send hard copies to parents receiving free books.

Parents really love the following books:
What Happens When Someone I Love Has Cancer by Sara Olsher
